The Key Laboratory of TCM Syndrome of Blood Stasis and Toxin of Zhejiang Province, established by the Institute of Basic TCM of ZCMU, is the first key laboratory concerning TCM etiology and pathogenesis research in Zhejiang. Prof. Zhang Guangji is Director of the Laboratory, and Prof. Zhu Aisong and Prof.Shi Senlin are Deputy Directors. Based on the key area supported by national strategies and Zhejiang TCM development plans, the Laboratory focuses on the research of TCM theory and identification technology of blood stasis and toxin, pathogenesis and therapeutic mechanisms, pharmacodynamic substance basis, application transformation, etc. Targeting major chronic diseases with a high rate of incidence, mortality and disability that seriously endanger people’s health and TCM is effective against, the Laboratory conducts systematic research to develop key generic technologies and solve major scientific problems, including the enhancement of clinical efficacy of major chronic diseases, prognosis improvement, and life expectancy extension. The Laboratory has also proposed “Chinese Characteristic Scheme of Integrated TCM and Western Medicine” to provide technological support for a high-quality development of TCM.
The team led by Prof. Zhang, Deputy Secretary of the Communist Party Committee of ZCMU, and Prof. Zhu, Dean of the School of Basic Medical Sciences, focuses on cardiovascular diseases, malignant tumors and other major chronic diseases in their early stage. It has found the general trajectory and evolution laws of “blood stasis and toxin interlinking” in the occurrence and development of many major chronic diseases, revealed the modern scientific connotations of the core etiology and pathogenesis, and put forward innovative clinical treatment plans which are applied across China. The related research has won the first prize of the Zhejiang Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award, the first prize of the Science and Technology Award of the China Association of Chinese Medicine, etc. In the past three years, the Laboratory has been supported by the National Key R&D Program, Key Program of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and other major national programs. It is at the forefront of innovative etiology research of TCM basic theory.
Striving to build a high-quality, shared and open platform for innovative research in Zhejiang, the Laboratory will continue to promote the inheritance and innovation of the theoretical system of TCM syndrome of blood stasis and toxin, and the development of basic theoretical disciplines of TCM to solve a series of difficult problems such as the diagnosis and treatment of major chronic diseases. Meanwhile, it will integrate the traditional TCM theory of homotherapy-for-heteropathy for blood stasis and toxin with the modern evidence-based medicine, which will accelerate the modernization and application transformation of TCM.
