The Confucius Institute for Chinese Medicine at University of the Western Cape in South Africa(CIUWC) was jointly established by Zhejiang Chinese Medical University and Zhejiang Normal University in 2019, aiming to promote TCM, Chinese language teaching and Chinese culture in South Africa, and increase the exchanges and mutual learning of traditional medicine between the two countries. Since then, Zhejiang Chinese Medical University sent clinical professional teachers to teach Chinese Medicine classics and clinical courses facing the local TCM students. CIUWC is not only the support of the curriculum, but also a complementary to the TCM talent cultivation by setting up special courses in the field of internal and surgery medicine, acupuncture, massage, diet, tai chi, martial arts, etc.. CIUWC held lectures on TCM, undertook the final of the 19th "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Competition among World College Students, conducted a series of Traditional Medicine Forum, and participated in the Online Launch Meeting of the International Confucius Institutes for Chinese Medicine Alliance. During the Covid-19 epidemic, large quantity of protective masks and Chinese patent medicines were donated to Traditional Healers Organization(located in Kraifontein of Northern Cape Town) by CIUWC.
