The Confucius Institute at University of Coimbra in Portugal(CIUC) was jointly established by Zhejiang Chinese Medicial University and Beijing International Studies University in 2016. It is the unique TCM Confucius Institute in Portugal, offering courses on Chinese Medicine Overview, Chinese Language and Chinese Culture, Chinese Medicine Health Care and Chinese Calligraphy for medical students. In 2019, CIUC held a series of activities such as Tour of Chinese Martial Art, the first International Conference on TCM, TCM Tour to Portugal, the International Conference on Chinese Acupuncture in the 21st Century, etc.. Despite the impact of Covid-19 pandemic, CIUC and its local Chinese classroom enrolled 369 students in 2020, with an increase of 8.8%. And the number of participants in the activities increased by 181.3%. Moreover, CIUC has made great efforts to fight against the pandemic, such as online medical consultations, donation of medical equipment and Chinese herbal medicine to local and abroad. In 2020, several large-scale activities including the Spring Festival Gala, the Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine Exchange Conference, the 730th Anniversary Concert, the Online Exchange Conference for Plant Medicine Enterprises, the TCM Institute Association Exchange Meeting, etc. were held in CIUC.
