On August 15, ShanghaiRanking, an organization dedicated to research on higher education, released the “2024 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU),” which showcased the top 1,000 research-oriented universities worldwide. A total of 203 universities from the Chinese Mainland made the list. Zhejiang Chinese Medical University (ZCMU) ranked in the 601-700 range globally (specifically at 665), marking an improvement of 114 in ranking from last year. It ranked 128th among the Chinese Mainland universities—an ascent of 14 places. For the second consecutive year, ZCMU holds the 2nd position among Chinese universities specializing in Traditional Chinese Medicine.
The ARWU, first published in 2003, is the world’s first comprehensive global university ranking. Alongside QS, THE (Times Higher Education), and US News ranking for the top universities in the world, ARWU is recognized as one of the four most authoritative global university rankings. In 2023, ZCMU made its debut in the top 1,000 of the ARWU, ranking 779th globally and 2nd among traditional Chinese medicine universities nationwide.
In the 2024 Best Chinese Universities Ranking released by ShanghaiRanking, ZCMU rose to 20th place among Chinese medical universities, climbing one place from last year. ZCMU’s ESI(Essential Science Indicators) subject rankings also showed steady progress, with its Pharmacology and Toxicology, as well as Clinical Medicine, entering the top 0.3% globally, ranking within the top 1.755‰ and 2.560‰, respectively. Additionally, 13 disciplines, including Traditional Chinese Hematology, ranked among the top ten in the national academic influence rankings for traditional Chinese medicine hospital disciplines (specialties).
