In 2023, ZCMU made significant strides in scientific and technological innovation, leading seven national key and major programs encompassing National Key Research and Development Programs, the National Natural Science Foundation of China (Key Program), and the National Natural Science Foundation Regional Innovation and Development Joint Fund. This achievement marks a new pinnacle.
Looking forward to 2024, ZCMU remains committed to serving national strategic needs and aims to establish itself as a first-class TCM university. Team Profiles
Prof. Chen Zhong & Researcher Wang Yi’s Team
The team led by Prof. Chen Zhong and Researcher Wang Yi relies on the Key Laboratory of Neuropharmacology and Translational Medicine of Zhejiang Province. It showcases robust scientific innovation, dynamism, and an interdisciplinary composition encompassing diverse fields such as Pharmacology, Chemistry, and Chinese Medicine. They’ve garnered multiple national-level accolades.
Their extensive research focuses on the pathogenesis of chronic brain diseases and therapeutic targets within Chinese and Western medicine. Their pioneering work on neuropharmacology concerning histamine and its receptors, as well as investigations into the pathogenesis of epilepsy, stands at the forefront of global research. Leading numerous national-level research programs, the team’s original findings have been published in top-tier international journals including Nature, Neuron, Nature Neuroscience, Nature Communications, Nature Nanotechnology, PNAS, Biological Psychiatry, Journal of Experimental Medicine, Cell Reports, comprising over 300 SCI papers cited over 10,000 times. Thirteen of their papers have been recommended by F1000 Faculty members. Prof. Chen Zhong has consistently been recognized as one of Elsevier’s Highly Cited Chinese Researchers. Their exceptional accomplishments have garnered numerous national and provincial awards.
Prof. Fang Jianqiao’s Team
Prof. Fang Jianqiao’s team is based on the vital discipline of Acupuncture and Massage in Zhejiang Province, the National Key Discipline of Traditional Chinese Medicine (Acupuncture and Moxibustion), the first-level discipline of Chinese Medicine in Zhejiang Province, and the advantageous disciplines of the key universities in Zhejiang Province, boasting numerous provincial and national talents.
Their primary focus lies in researching acupuncture analgesia and acupuncture treatment for cerebrovascular diseases. Over the last five years, the team has secured nine scientific and technological awards at the provincial and ministerial levels. They have led two National Key Research and Development Programs and 27 other national projects, alongside managing 16 provincial and ministerial research projects. Their contributions include publishing over 82 SCI papers in prestigious journals such as PNAS and Cell Reports and securing over 30 patents.
Prof. Zhang Guangji’s Team
Prof. Zhang Guangji’s team is a dedicated group of researchers specializing in the study of “blood stasis and toxin” related to malignant tumors. Leveraging the high-level key disciplines of the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Key Laboratory of TCM Syndrome of Blood Stasis and Toxin in Zhejiang Province, and the Zhejiang Engineering Research Center for Intelligent Health of Preventive Treatment of TCM, among other high-level platforms, the team has embarked on numerous national-level projects in the last five years. The team focuses on the “blood stasis and toxin” of malignant tumors, employing a comprehensive approach encompassing theoretical, clinical, and mechanistic aspects. The research has earned them 9 awards, including the first prize in the Zhejiang Science & Technology Progress Award. Their scholarly contributions include over 200 published papers and 15 books.
Prof. Wan Haitong’s Team
The team relies on the key disciplines of the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the first-class disciplines of Zhejiang Province and the Key Laboratory of TCM Encephalopathy of Zhejiang Province. The team comprises numerous national and provincial talents.
This team has dedicated itself to fundamental and clinical research in TCM for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, yielding significant achievements. The team has led many national key programs, won several provincial and ministerial awards, published hundreds of SCI papers in internationally renowned journals and dozens of books, and obtained many new drug certificates and clinical research approvals.
Prof. Kai Guoyin’s Team
Prof. Kai Guoyin leads the Biotechnology and Pharmacodynamic Evaluation of TCM high-level innovation team of Zhejiang universities, with several national and provincial talents.
Their primary focus lies in the research of TCM resources and synthetic biology. The team has led more than 10 national programs. The team has published over 100 SCI papers, 26 authorized invention patents, and won many awards.
