From November 11th to 17th, President Chen Zhong led a delegation to visit New Zealand and Australia, primarily focusing on conducting a comprehensive review of the ongoing phase and launching the next construction phase at the China-New Zealand TCM Center. Concurrently, the delegation engaged in significant exchanges with the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in New Zealand, the Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Auckland, the Chinese Medicine Council of New Zealand and various government departments. Moreover, they explored collaborative opportunities with institutions and organizations such as the School of Medicine, University of Sydney, and the Australian Association of Chinese Biomedical Scientists (AACBS).

From November 12th to 14th, a group of four people including Yan Shujiang, Deputy Director of the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, along with a delegation of five people led by Chen Zhong, President of ZCMU, convened at the China-New Zealand TCM Center in Auckland. The purpose was to conduct a phase-end review of the Center’s operations while officially initiating the specialized international cooperation projects for the upcoming year. The Center stands as one of the four centers deployed overseas by ZCMU, serving as a national specialty service export base for TCM. The forthcoming focus of the Center will be on advancements in the trade of traditional Chinese medicine products.

On the afternoon of the 14th, President Chen Zhong led the delegation to visit the Chinese Medicine Council of New Zealand. Dr. Paddy McBride, Chairman of the Council, engaged in discussions covering various aspects such as the registration of Chinese medicine practitioners in New Zealand, TCM course approvals, and the policies and regulations surrounding the Chinese medicine industry. This visit marked the inaugural visit of a delegation from a TCM institution in China to New Zealand following the establishment of the Chinese Medicine Council of New Zealand.

On the morning of the 15th, Mr. Wang Xiaolong, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in New Zealand (Cook Islands, Niue) and other people met with the ZCMU delegation. They exchanged thoughts on potential academic exchanges and scientific research cooperation between relevant universities and organizations in New Zealand and ZCMU. In addition, the delegation also visited the Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Auckland.

Throughout this visit, the delegation also engaged in visits and exchanges with the School of Medicine, University of Sydney and the AACBS to explore prospective partnerships. The discussions were concentrated on potential collaborations in pharmacogenomics, tumor gene database construction, and mutual agreements regarding the recruitment of high-caliber talents, as well as exchange programs of teachers and students.

The visit strengthened the cooperation between the China-New Zealand TCM Center and associated organizations, significantly fostering the dissemination and development of TCM within the international domain.
