The Zhejiang Provincial Key Laboratory of Blood Stasis and Toxin led by Professor Zhang Guangji of ZCMU was recognized as a provincial key laboratory in the 2022 Provincial Key Laboratory Accreditation and Cultivation List released by the Science Technology Department of Zhejiang Province. It is not only the first laboratory of syndromes in the field of TCM etiology and pathogenesis in Zhejiang but also the first laboratory of blood stasis and toxin in China.

The establishment of the Laboratory, the first key laboratory of TCM etiology and pathogenesis, is based on the Institute of Basic TCM Research of ZCMU with Professor Zhang as the director and Professors Zhu Aisong and Shi Senlin as deputy directors. The laboratory team boasts great research strength and a galaxy of talents among whom professors, associate professors and doctors account for 90.47%.

Rooted in a key field supported by China’s national strategy and Zhejiang Provincial TCM development plans, the Laboratory focuses on the TCM theory and identification technology of blood stasis and toxin, pathogenesis and therapeutic mechanisms, pharmacodynamic substance basis and application transformation, etc. Targeting major chronic diseases that severely endanger people’s health with a high rate of incidence, mortality and disability and curative effects of TCM, systematic research is conducted in the Laboratory to solve major scientific problems and develop key generic technologies including the improvement of clinical efficacy of major chronic diseases and the prognosis and extension of life expectancy. Meanwhile, the Laboratory, tapping into the advantages of TCM, has put forward a "Chinese integrative plan of TCM and Western medicine", which provides technological support for a high-quality development of TCM.
